How to tell if someone is faking their Feedburner count

Take a look at my furthest right sidebar - you’ll see I have 162 subscribers. Or do I? I just had 20 yesterday. I must have gained 142 readers overnight!

Get real.

Bloggers can easily cheat with Feedburner to make their RSS subscriber count look much higher than it really is. All they need are two things: a blogger with a high Feedburner subscriber count and the ability to edit one line of code.

You can read more about this hack in this post from Ian Fernando. I’ll change the count back tomorrow. ;-)

  1. Wow, there’s one I’ve never heard of.

    Sort of clever, though.
