This worries me a little

During my junior year of high school (which were really not that long ago) high school students and middle school students both shared the middle school for half a day each.  So, high school students went in the morning and came home around 11, then middle school students had it for the rest of the day.  Why?  It was discovered during renovations in the HS that asbestos had been used in much of the building.

This concerns me because of the fact that malignant mesothelioma can develop in those who work in asbestos.  Now, we weren’t really working in it, per se, but we were around it to some degree before anyone realized it.  Are we at risk?  Or has enough time passed without issue that we can breathe a sigh of relief?  I’m not too familiar with the disease, just that it can develop through asbestos exposure.
